A year later...

In case you are wondering I did finish that Indiana Jones costume last year.  I even finished a costume for this year since my last post. It's Elvis, specifically jail house rock Elvis.

You can't tell from the photo, but he was really excited.

Most of the pieces for his costume came from the thrift store. The pants were originally navy and the button up shirt was white. (The pants took one dye session & the shirt 3.) I hand stitched the white details and freezer paper stenciled the white stripes and numbers.

He walked around with an ipod playing Jail House Rock. Not everyone got it, but I was amused.

Let's try this again.

Wow! It's been a while. I've been pretty busy.........not getting stuff done. Someday I'll conquer this whole procrastination thing and there will be rejoicing by all. (Well, at least by those in my house and maybe a few others.)

Despite my lack of productivity, I have finished pulling together a costume for my son, which I am very excited about. He is going to be the cutest mini- Indiana Jones ever. I'm not biased or anything, nooooo not me. I wanted to make him an Elvis costume for this year, but I knew that was too ambitious for the time frame. So how did I go from Elvis to Indiana Jones? It all started with a fake leather jacket my husband bought for our son. I thought about how easy it would be to get just a few more items to pull off the look and how reusable most of the items would be.

Leather jacket - check
Khaki pants - check
Lighter khaki shirt - problem; easily solved by tea-dyeing a white shirt - check
Satchel & Whip - quick trip to the thrift store, a little crafting - check
Brown shoes - unexpected thrift store score, his size, only $2 - check
Hat - ordered and expecting tomorrow - half check

I can't wait to put him in his costume!

Who am I

So my first post was successful! Woohoo!
I think I should introduce myself a little.
Hi, my name is Rachel. I've lived my entire life in Ohio, if you don't count vacations. I am married to my favorite guy and we are raising one outrageously cute little boy. We have 2 beautiful dogs that we adopted from shelters and currently a few ants I just can't seem to get rid of. I am employed by two places. One I considered my real job, the other I consider fun I am paid for. I hope to have at least one more kid, but am not opposed to more than that. I also would like to lose 50lbs and finish school someday.
I love to read, but don't do it often because I don't like to stop and start. I like to read straight through. I love to do all kinds of crafty stuff, but lately when I've found time to craft it's been sewing. I want to do more camping and hiking, but I really hate bugs and know I would freak out if I ever found a tick on myself or son. I like to go on road trips and find new fun places to explore. I like to plan to decorate my house and hopefully someday will get around to executing parts or all of those plans.
I think that is a good sum up.

Just beginning

I don't know what I am doing yet, but I learn best by just jumping in. SO......here I go.
